Transportation

Local Buses
  • All University of Pittsburgh students, faculty, and staff may ride all Port Authority buses, trolleys, and inclines within Allegheny County. Show the driver your valid and current Panther Card (Pitt ID) to ride fare free. Family members and guests must pay the full fare.
  • Local bus transportation in Pittsburgh is provided by the Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAT). Schedules for the various routes throughout the city may be obtained from the William Pitt Student Union or by going to the PAT web site at www.RideGold.com or by calling PAT customer service at (412) 442-2000 and asking specific questions such as, "How do I get from Pitt to the Monroeville Mall?
  • Another resource for determining bus routes and viewing port authority schedules is availabe at buskarma. This site is a lot easier to use than PAT's web site, but you need to know where you are and where you want to go.
  • PAT buses also offer low-cost fares to/from the Pittsburgh International Airport. All University of Pittsburgh students can ride fare free with a valid Pitt ID card.

Campus Transportation

Biking

  • Pitt's close proximity to many popular neighborhoods and parks makes biking a convenient way to get around. Many bike racks are available on campus and around the city. You can register your bike for free, which is useful in case of theft. Click here for the registration form and other helpful information.
  • More general resources for biking in Pittsburgh, such as trail maps, events listing, and advocacy information, are collected on the Bike Pittsburgh website . Help with maintenence, repairs, and inexpensive used bikes are available from the nonprofit Free Ride.

Driving

  • Perhaps the least convenient option, as parking is somewhat scarce, but certainly feasible. Visit Pitt's Parking web page for more information.
  • Information on carpooling and vanpooling can be found on Pitt's Ridesharing page
