Computer Science Department Newsgroups:

CS Department has created a newsgroup [cs.info] for incoming students. Questions in [cs.info] will be answered by students and faculty members. Feel free to look at previous questions/answers by reading archives of this newsgroup.

 

CS News can be read via your favorite news reader program, such as Netscape, by setting the news server to the appropriate entry. To set the news server (newsgroup server) to the appropriate name for the correct set of newsgroups:

  • Using Netscape to read news: [tutorial]

  • Using Mozilla to read news: [tutorial]

  • Using Mozilla Thunderbird to read news: [tutorial]

  • Using Outlook Express to read news: [tutorial]

  • Using Pine to read news: [tutorial]

To access these newsgroups, set the value of the news server to: usenet.cs.pitt.edu.
