All this is useless without devices that use .NET.
So what are .NET's goals for such devices?
- Smart about you. Devices use your .NET
identity, profile and data to simplify their use. They
also respond differently whether you are present or not,
and tailor notifications accordingly.
- Smart about the network. Devices respond
and adjust to bandwidth constraints, online/offline
applications, and understand available services provided
over a network.
- Smart about information. Permit access,
analysis, and acting upon user data anytime and anywhere.
- Smart about "devices". Discover
and announce PC, smart devices, servers, the Internet,
and provide its own services to these. Also permit smart
PC data access.
- Smart about software. Applications
optimally presented for form factor. Input methods and
connectivity are appropriate for end-user interaction.
Acts as a comsumer of "web services" via
protocols and standards like XML, SOAP, and UDDI. Allow
programmability and extensibility by other developers.
