Planned Programs, 2000-2001 Academic Year December 2, 2000 Computer Science Day Description: Open House co-sponsored by the Computer Science Department featuring displays, poster presentations, speakers, and demonstrations by the faculty and students in Computer Science. Representatives from industry will be available to discuss career opportunities in Computer Science. Those invited to attend include: University of Pittsburgh students and faculty, high school students and their parents, high school teachers, school counselors, and alumni. A special lunch meeting will be held for Link-to-Learn students before the program. Location: WW Posvar

September and October 2000 Link-to-Learn Seminars Description: A one-hour
presentation on careers in computer science featuring a speaker from industry,
for those interested in opportunities in the field. Program and location
will be announced.
September 2000; Ongoing Student Mentoring Program Description: Faculty and Graduate Student Mentors will work with undergraduate Computer Science majors to provide guidance and a sense of community, to identify and solve student problems quickly, and to channel highly qualified students into the combined B.S./M.S. program or other graduate programs. To qualify for mentoring, students must be from an under-represented group in computer science (females, minorities).
