CS0007:  Introduction to Computer Programming

University of Pittsburgh

Grading Policies

All work you do in the course will earn points.  The point distribution typically breaks down to something similar to this:
  • 40-45% - assignments (between 8 and 11, written and programming)
  • 10-20% - recitation plus other activities (possibly quizzes or team projects)
  • 40-45% - exams (3)

Exam coverage is mentioned in the syllabus.

DO NOT MISS AN EXAM OR QUIZ!! I will not give make up exams for any reason.
If you absolutely positively can't make it on test day, we must schedule you an alternate time before the actual test day. ALWAYS CONTACT ME AHEAD OF TIME IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT TO AN EXAM!!!  The dates have been set and are listed on the syllabus.

All 3 exams will be held during class in the regular room. Calculators are allowed, but are not necessary.  You will be notified ahead of time if any quizzes are given.

No letter grades will be given for individual assignments or exams. Clearly, you should always go for the highest score possible.

The following grade scale is guaranteed for the final course grade:

  • 90% earns at least an A-
  • 80% earns at least a B-
  • 70% earns at least a C-
  • 60% earns at least a D-
Final grades will be based on a curve if necessary, so this may improve things for you. There is no guarantee such a curve will be implemented, however, and I won't know until until after the final course scores are tabulated, so please don't ask.
