Book Review Editor:

AIMS AND SCOPE:
The International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering
is published quarterly, March, June, September and December of each year.
It is intended to serve as a forum for researchers, practitioners, and
developers to exchange ideas and results for the advancement of software
engineering and knowledge engineering. Three types of papers will be
published:
- Research papers reporting original research results
- echnology trend surveys reviewing an area of research in software
engineering and
knowledge engineering
- Survey articles surveying a broad area in software engineering and
knowledge engineering
In addition, tool reviews (no more than three manuscript pages) and book
reviews (no more than two manuscript pages) are also welcome.
A central theme of this journal is the interplay between software
engineering and knowledge engineering: how knowledge engineering methods
can be applied to software engineering, and vice versa. The journal
publishes papers in the areas of software engineering methods and
practices, object-oriented systems, rapid prototyping, software reuse,
cleanroom software engineering, stepwise refinement/enhancement, formal
methods of specification, ambiguity in software development, impact of CASE
on software development life cycle, knowledge engineering methods and
practices, logic programming, expert systems, knowledge-based systems,
distributed knowledge-based systems, deductive database systems, knowledge
representations, knowledge-based systems in language translation &
processing, software and knowledge-ware maintenance, reverse engineering in
software design, and applications in various domains of interest.
Suggestions for special issues are welcome. To propose a special issue, a
one-page proposal should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief, containing
the following information: title; purpose; scope; a list of potential
contributors and tentative paper titles; time-table (submission and review
deadlines, intended publication date); and guest editor's address, phone,
fax and e-mail address. Once approved, the guest editor will be fully
responsible for the special issue and should follow the normal review
procedure of IJSEKE.
The journal IJSEKE is complemented by the annual International Conference
on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering held in June each year.
Papers of a preliminary and ongoing nature can first be submitted for
presentation at the annual SEKE conferences, and the definitive papers can
then be submitted to IJSEKE. Information on the SEKE
conferences can be obtained from seke
ksi.edu.
IJSEKE is covered in the CMCI CompuMath Citation Index,
which can also be accessed through the abstract/index page of IJSEKE.
Call for Members of the Board of Reviewers
We are looking for people to serve on the Board of Reviewers who will be acknowledged
in the journal annually. Each reviewer receives at most three papers per year
to review. If you are interested in serving as a reviewer, please send a list
of keywords describing your area of interest and the URL of your Web site via
e-mail to seke
ksi.edu.
Call for Book Proposals on SE & KE
A Book Series on Software Engineering and Knowledge
Engineering, edited by S. K. Chang, welcomes proposal on books. Usually
books are edited by guest editors based upon the selection of best papers from
a conference, a workshop or open call for papers. For more details please contact
seke
ksi.edu.
Call for Papers for Journal of Visual Languages and Computing
A related journal,
Journal of Visual Languages and Computing,
also welcomes contributions in visual software engineering, software visualization,
multimedia software engineering, visual software specifiction and design, etc.
INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
Form of Manuscript: Four copies of the manuscript including
the original (reproductions are acceptable if they are
clearly legible) and copies of all figures are required. In
addition, one reproducible set of figures (professionally
drafted ink originals of line drawings; glossy prints of
halftones) will be required if the paper is accepted.
Manuscripts should be typewritten, double-spaced on one side
of 8.5 X 11 in white paper with 1 inch margins. Page 1
should contain the article title, author(s), and
affiliation(s); and the name and complete mailing address of
the person to whom correspondence should be sent. Any footnotes
to the title (indicated by *, +, etc.) should be
placed at the bottom of page 1. Page 2 should contain a
short abstract (100-150 words), and a list of keywords.
Electronic manuscript: An electronic manuscript in Word
format, Latex format or plain text format should be provided
on a CD or a diskette. The electronic manuscript should follow the
same general style as described in this document. The publisher
will edit your file to
make sure every article follows the same style.
Figures in gif, jpg, ps or eps format should be saved on the
diskette as separate files. It will be most helpful to include
a README text file describing the content of the CD or diskette.
If your file size is less than 3 MB, you can e-mail it directly
to the production editor Ms. Kim Tan (kim@wspc.com.sg) as an attachment.
List of Symbols: The manuscript should contain a list of all
symbols used in the paper. They should be identified
typographically for the printer, not mathematically. This list
will not appear in print, but is essential to avoid costly
corrections in proof.
Footnotes: Text footnotes should be avoided whenever
possible. If they must be used, indicate them by superscript
numbers in the text, and type them all double-spaced on a
separate page.
Equations should be typewritten and with the number placed
in parentheses at the right margin. Reference to the
euqations should use the form "Eq. (3)" or simply (3).
References should be indicated in the text by numbers in
square brackets and listed at the end of the paper in
numerical order; they should be typed double-spaced on a separate
page. Style and punctuation of references must be in
accordance with the following examples:
1. T. Y. Kong and A. W. Roscoe, Continuous analogs of
axiomated digital surfaces. Comput. Vision Graphics Image
Process 29, 1985, 60-86.
2. R. M. Haralick, edge and region analysis for
digital image data in Image Modeling (A. Rosenfeld, Ed), pp.
171-184, Academic Press, New York, 1981.
3. R. A. Schowengerdt, Techniques for Image Processing
and Classification in Remote Sensing, Academic Press,
New York, 1983.
4. Proceedings of 1999 IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages, Tokyo, Japan, September 13-16, 1999, http://www.isl.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/vl99.html.
Reports should not be cited unless absolutely necessary.
Tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals in order of
appearance in the text. They should be typed double-spaced
on separate pages. Each table should have a short descriptive
caption. Table footnotes (indicated by superscript
lower-case letters) should be typed at the end of the table.
Figures should be numbered in order of appearance (with
Arabic numerals) and should have short descriptive captions.
Line drawings must be professionally drafted originals, in
black ink, with lettering large enough to be legible after a
reduction of 50-60%. Photographs must be glossy prints. No
figures should exceed 8.5 x 11 inch in size; they should be
designed to fit the proportions of the printed page. All
figures should have captions typed double-spaced on a
separate sheet. Illustrations in color can be accepted only
if the authors defray the cost.
For electronic submission to IJSEKE journal and sample format please visit the following official journal website:
http://www.editorialmanager.com/ijseke/
Page Charge: There is a mandatory page charge of $30 USD per
published page. The author will receive 100 copies of reprints
free of charge.
Turnaround Time: There is no deadline. Papers can be submitted
any time during the year. It generally takes about six months
to have the paper reviewed and each round of review takes about
six months. If a paper is accepted after one round of review,
the time between the submission to actual publication is about
one year. If a paper requires several rounds of review, longer
time may be needed.
Sample Review Form: For the convenience of guest editors and reviewers,
a sample review form is available.
Final version of Manuscript: If the paper is accepted, the final
version of the manuscript and one copy, with a separate page
listing all mathematical symbols used in the paper, a separate
page of figure captions, original figures each on a separate
page, and a zipped file containing the text of the paper in TeX, LaTeX, WORD or
ASCII format and all the figures, are to be sent to the publisher. The following
style files are available from the publisher.
Acceptance Rate: The acceptance rate of IJSEKE is about 28%
based upon papers submitted between Jan 2008 and Dec 2009.
