Trends in Delivery Technology
According to a recent report from the National Center for Educational Statistics, in 2000-2001 the most common delivery technology was asynchronous computer-based instruction, used by 90% of the institutions.
When asked what technologies they plan to use or to increase using over the next three years, asynchronous and synchronous computer-based instruction were clearly the top choices by most institutions.
According to a recent report from the Illinois Virtual Campus, Illinois colleges and universities reported an increase of 45% from the previous year's online course enrollments (Spring/Winter 2002).
However enrollments in distance education courses delivered via other modes (stored media, interactive TV, open broadcast TV, and correspondence) for the Spring/Winter 2003 term had a net decrease of 10% from the previous year.
