Modeling and Monitoring Student Behavior Adaption and Adaptivity
Overview
The resources presented in the learning environment should adapt to the
student's goals and knowledge [HN99]. Adaption functionality may include [HN99]:
- adaptive information resources -- appropriate information
- adaptive navigational structure -- navigational structure is adapted
in order to provide the student with information about appropriate material to explore next
- adaptive trail generation -- generate a sequential trail, or guided tour, based on student's goals
- adaptive project selection -- provide suitable projects/exercises depending on student's goals and level of knowledge
- adaptive goal selection -- propose suitable learning goals based on student's knowledge
Different solutions to adaption [DeB99], [KB01]:
- adaptable -- rely on user profile information that can be set by the learner prior to accessing learning materials
- adaptive -- include monitoring and diagnosis capabilities to observe the student's behavior and adapts the presentation accordingly to provide appropriate guidance and presentations
- dynamic -- generates presentations from information components dynamically rather than changing and adapting a predefined presentation
