Prototyping with the Site Designer

One of the things that I did not discuss in the development process is the site designer. Although it is not absolutely necessary to use this tool, it aids considerably in ensuring the quality of the site's structure and navigation as well as the integrity of the site's links.

The Site Designer uses site diagrams for creating the layout and flow of the web site. Hierarchical relationships between pages can be established and the navigational flow can be mapped out.

Each page is represented by a box in the diagram. Connecting lines and icons show the relationship between pages.

The tool can be used on an ongoing basis for enhancing the site's structure and navigation.

Another feature, Link View, is also provided to display all links within the site to internal or external resources. Broken lines can easily be identified and repaired.
