Context in communication

  • Context is a property of agent interaction

  • Communication implies the sharing of a linguistic code and a context

  • Context is history, knowledge state of agents, etc.

  • Role of Context :

  • To make shared knowledge explicit during interactions among agents
  • To control actions to achieve goals
  • To predict user's needs
  • To help plan/predict course of dialogue
  • To reduce cognitive load/human memory load
  • To resolve ambiguity and conflict

  • For predicting next actions of users

-Stored in long-term memory and recalled as a whole

  • Hence, We can say that :

Communication and context constrain each other, and

Context and communication influence each other.
