Motivating Example 3: Airport Security

Assume we have a multimedia database with multimedia objects being still images of luggage types. And then we have a multimedia stream of video frames taken by some airport’s security cameras. The images are taken inside the terminal, and outside as well. So, the input multimedia stream might contain frames that contain luggages. It might be useful to recognize the luggage type and the location to make sure that every thing is going well accordingly, and there are no violations of the airport regulations and rules. This could be modeled as a multimedia continuous query. The advantage of applying a multimedia data stream approach is the ability to have up-to-date rules, and allowing exceptions in emergency cases, yet, the precision and the 24 hours monitoring advantages are also gained as opposed to relying only on human monitoring.
