OPEN is defined by a generic, flexible metamodel (model of a model). The metamodel provides the rules for building a new industry-specific or domain-specific process instance.
The OPEN Process Framework (OPF) is described in terms of a set of interrelated meta-components each of which encapsulates some concept in the process model:
