Inspection

Inspections are formal. Usually four people are involved. There are five steps:
  • Overview:
  • Preparation:
  • Inspection: detect faults, not correct them.
  • Rework: resolves all faults.
  • Follow-up: accomplishes closure.

An essential component of an inspection is the checklist of potential faults.

Discussion: What is a checklist? Give several examples of checklists, and discuss their general characteristics: (a) for car repair; (b) for a charity organization to comply to federal regulations; (c) for a software module to work.
