CS 1520 Course Announcements
July 22, 2015
  • I have put some review / study materials online to help you prepare for Exam Two (which will be during lecture on Wednesday, July 29). See the Online Materials link in the CS 1520 Home Page.
  • July 6, 2015
  • As mentioned in lecture, Quiz 2 will be given during lecture on:
       Monday, July 13
       Wednesday, July 15

Material for the quiz will be everything from Lecture 12 up to and including Lecture 17.
  • Tues., June 23, 2015
  • As I announced in lecture on Monday, I have waived the late penalty for Assignment 2. This means that the late due date is unchanged (Monday, June 29) but late submissions can still receive full credit.

I will be posting the demo schedule soon -- check back.
  • Fri., June 12, 2015
  • I have put some review materials for Exam 1 (which will be on Wednesday, June 17) online. Please see the Online Materials link for these materials. Take a good look at them as they will help you a lot in preparing for the exam. For the practice questions note that these are just a sample of the types of questions that may be on the exam. Be sure to study all of the relevant material while preparing for the exam.
  • Wednesday, June 10, 2015
  • On Wednesday, June 24 class will begin 15 minutes later than normal, at 12:45PM.
  • Friday, June 5, 2015
  • The CS 1520 Submission site has now been activated, so you can submit Assignment 1 at your convenience. I have included two submission links in the site -- one for Project 1 and one called "Test". I recommend trying a "Test" submission with a dummy file prior to actually submitting your project, especially if you are not familiar with this type of submission site. For details on the submission procedures, please see:
    CS 1520 Submission Procedures
  • Recall that in addition to submitting your project, all students are required to sign up for and perform a demonstration of your project in order to receive a grade for it. We will initially try to keep the demo sign-up procedure simple using a simple google doc. If we find that this is not working so well, we will try a more formalized sign-up mechanism for future projects. Below is the link for the demo sign-up. Please do not change any entries other than your own.

  • Quiz 1 will be given during recitation on
       Monday, June 8
       Wednesday, June 10

Material for the Quiz will be everything up to and including the lecture on Wednesday, June 3. See the Daily Syllabus for specific topics. The quiz will contain some True / False questions, some Fill in the Blank questions, a trace (I give the code and you give the output), a short coding problem and perhaps a short answer (define / compare / explain / etc) problem.

  • I have put Programming Project 1 online. Read over it in the Programming Projects link. You have a while to do it but given that we will not meet again until Wednesday, May 27 I recommend that you all read it over carefully prior to that date. Also, look over the course notes and handouts, which may help you to get started with the project.
  • Friday, May 8, 2015
  • Welcome to CS/COE 1520 for the Summer 2015 Term (2157). We will be starting the course with basic html and server-side scripting with PHP. Please read Chapters 1, 2 and 9 in the Sebesta text.
  • Recitations WILL MEET the first week. Check your schedule for your recitation day and time.
  • You will be running your own XAMPP web servers for your projects this term (at least for now). To do this you need to download and install XAMPP either onto your laptop or onto a flash drive (that you can then plug into a lab machine). For information about XAMPP and various installation options see: https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html
  • You will need to have your XAMPP web server ready to go by class on Wednesday, May 20 for your first in-class exercise. Don't delay in getting it installed! For help, be sure to attend your recitations.
  • Check back regularly for more announcements.
