(2) The topic/trend analysis system can utilize SIS concepts. In Shih's paper, four possible SIS sub-systems are suggested. You can pick one of such SIS sub-system and work out the details. This project is theoretically oriented. You need to work out the mathematical model for the SIS sub-system. See the following Powerpoint presentation.
(3) Design of the Time Controller and the Knowledge Base. The Time Controller and the Knowledge Base are what make SIS approach different from other evolutionary approaches. At the most simplistic level, the Time Controller is just a panic button (which can be modelled by a simple Petri net with a single transition), and the Knowledge Base is just a table. A more sophisticated Time Controller will have different states (or modes), modelled by a Petri net. In each different state a different KB can be used and a different decision cycle can be invoked. The initial state could be the state where the slow decision cycle is invoked. In other words, if the Time Controller remains in the initial state, the SIS will operate in the slow decision cycle. If the Time Controller enters other states, other KB can be used and other decision cycle can be invoked. An interesting project can be the design of the Time Controller and the KB.
(4) Other topics such as the analysis of an existing social network as a SIS. This kind of topic does not require programming or modeling. It is a case study.
